Hi friends, Iam pankaj mishra ,astudent of delhi college of engg , delhi, india i seek to have advice on the future of electrical engg' in our course of electrical engg we study much about electrical machines & power systems.Iget a feeling that these areas are no longer suitable for research .the whole world is talking of IT.Iwant to be associated with research . Should I switch over to software & waste my competitive advantage in my core field?what should i do?

    Hello!

Everybody is talking about I.T. these days and I my self am in Software Engineering because that's where my interests lie.

I am also led to believe that there is a shortage good power engineers, so if that's where your strong points lie stay with it.

    Hope this helps. Paul

Actually , the field you are studying have a broad carreer opportunities especially in your country. Unlike malaysia, hydropower is the best source for us to generate power. however your country still has other potentials such as nuclear. Besides, your field of working also include power distribution. You may have other alternatives like working in small scale power controller in the processing industries.Your salary is quite high if you are an experience engineer!

I am studying communication and electronic enginnering which is also a branch of electrical enginnering. Even though IT is leading in the world, but without power supply , how PCs start to work?

The future of Power Engineering is in our hands. Many people thinks that P.E field is not a good alternative for the new generation of students by differents causes:

    * The news technologies have called the attention of youngers
students becuase all days we are in contact with the new advances: movil telephones, optical fibres, satellite communications, wireless technology, Internet networks, etc.
Obviusly exist a wide range of research in this new areas of the Information, Software a Telecommunications.

    * The salaries of the new age engineers are higher that other areas, and exist a best ofert of employs. This topic is essential in the moment of choose a new career.

But P.E is pretty very important of the world. What happens with the new technologies if there isn´t energy? If you don´t have a good electricity service, you may not use several electrical apparatus like TV, DVD, Stereo, Air Condttioners, and the simple light bumb. Is the example of California, where almost all the people is crazy because the failure in the distribution systems.

The Power Engineering (Power systems: Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electricty,Electrical Machinery, Power electronics, etc) is the mother of the new engineerings. Electronics engineering born in 50´s like a field of specialization of P.E. Powers Engineers were the first in carry information through a network.

The best of the Powers Engineers is that we will have work to do for ever. And we have to research many new developments in this field to warranty a good service for all the poeple in all the world.

Remember, this world moves thanks to electricity. For this reason qualified engineers must work in Power systems research. The are many work to do. We seems like the medical doctors of the new information age.
Power Engineering is an excellent option. You have done a good decission!!!

i think human need more electric and need for elec. is rising we must find new tech. for new sources.Start to think about it i'm intresting in electronics but electrics why not!

This is the question I asked myself over and over when I was choosing a final year option. Well I found Power to be very interesting and exciting. Especially power systems analysis, I was amazed at the simulation tools which are used today. Power World is an extremely good example, this was used in one of my final year courses. It is a graphical simulation tool which gives us a picture response of our systems to changes in configuration, changes in operating conditions etc.

Another thing which lead me into the world of Power was my final year project "Power Generation Expansion Planning". I can go on and on.

People usually like pursue computer engineering and communication engineering but how many of those do we need. Computer Engineers have competition all over especially from programmers and those who pursued a "Computer Science" major in the Natural Science Department.

Power is the best. It's interesting, and we can never run out of Power Engineers.

So choose well and good luck.

    hai friend,

iam a diploma holder in electrical and electronics engineering, now in final year of B.E.,in EEE.

Till last year i also had a similar doubt as u have.but later on i came to realise that skillful electrical engineers will be needed more and will be paid more than software professionals,in short future, due to the increasing need for electrical power in the society.

    don't worry
