Hi friends, Iam pankaj mishra ,astudent of delhi college of engg , delhi, india i seek to have advice on the future of electrical engg' in our course of electrical engg we study much about electrical machines & power systems.Iget a feeling that these areas are no longer suitable for research .the whole world is talking of IT.Iwant to be associated with research . Should I switch over to software & waste my competitive advantage in my core field?what should i do?
Everybody is talking about I.T. these days and I my self am in Software Engineering because that's where my interests lie.
I am also led to believe that there is a shortage good power engineers, so if that's where your strong points lie stay with it.
Hope this helps. Paul
I am studying communication and electronic enginnering which is also a branch of electrical enginnering. Even though IT is leading in the world, but without power supply , how PCs start to work?

Another thing which lead me into the world of Power was my final year project "Power Generation Expansion Planning". I can go on and on.
People usually like pursue computer engineering and communication engineering but how many of those do we need. Computer Engineers have competition all over especially from programmers and those who pursued a "Computer Science" major in the Natural Science Department.
Power is the best. It's interesting, and we can never run out of Power Engineers.
So choose well and good luck.
iam a diploma holder in electrical and electronics engineering, now in final year of B.E.,in EEE.
Till last year i also had a similar doubt as u have.but later on i came to realise that skillful electrical engineers will be needed more and will be paid more than software professionals,in short future, due to the increasing need for electrical power in the society.
don't worry
