What next After EngTech

Hi, I am recently complete EngTech. What next after that.

  • It starts with, what do you want to achieve?

What future role do you aspire to? What qualifications are required (or useful) for that role?

If you aspire to IEng or CEng - look at the competencies. How do you match up? What development do you need to fill in the gaps? What aligns better with your recent roles - IEng or CEng?

Also for IEng and CEng - consider what options you may have for demonstrating the educational requirements - formal qualifications make this easier (but are not the only way)

Depending on your area of Engineering, there may be other qualifications/certifications that apply?

  • That said, I have just had a request to help a herd of EngTechs through to IEng! For non-graduates in particular their feeling is that this will help them demonstrate to future employers that they are experienced at working at "graduate level". It does very much depend on the industry, in their case they work in a safety-critical industry which therefore has a reasonable understanding of what IEng status means.

  • IEng would be the next one.  But very few people ever apply for it.  Most people wait until they have more experience, then go for CEng.
