Confessions of an Electrician...

So while we’ve not been able to log into the community (you can do so now if you didn’t already know) I’ve been keeping myself out of mischief Blush by going through some of the discussion topics on the old Wiring Regs forum and came across this one: Walking off site where some of you were sharing stories about your experiences with client's pets while on the job.

So I thought it would be a bit of fun to ask you to share some of your funny/bizarre or just weird stories (keeping it relatively clean and protecting the privacy of others please!) from any jobs you’ve been on or done.

… And I’ll send some swag to the author of the story that gets voted the ‘Most helpful/liked’ from the community so don't forget to hit that 'Good Answer' link on any that make you chuckle! (Log in required)

Does anyone know if there is any practical use for the novelty sized foam replica of the current regs book other than landfill?

Update: it makes a pretty good sanding pad with a bit of sandpaper added :D

  • WB, how have you managed to change your name? - not a pretty avatar.

I remember being called to a house occupied by a lady council tenent whose niece had spent 3/4 hour in the newly refurbed / installed electric shower. She had managed to blow a 30A BS3036 fuse and wanted me to fix it. After a few minutes chatting with her I discovered that she had also had a second hand gas heating appliance installed by one of her mates.

At this point I thanked her for her interest and legged it .............

    Legh

Seemingly so - and having used a UNIX/Linux system to do the ASCII to binary conversion too at a guess....

    Not once, but twice!
  • Earlier in this  thread mention was made of a novelty foam edition of the regs book (or something) is this a real thing? And if it is where can I get my paws on one I guess this seems an odd request but go with me on this

The IET normally have them at Elex shows, there is one in Coventry Thursday/Friday next week.

I may have a yellow & blue one spare here as I had some off the IET for some publicity work we did with them.

I would have to go hunting for them though!

  • Hi Paul thanks if you can find one that would be great Thanks
  • Stress toy.

That’s why Bod gave me his, as Bod does not stress. But now Lisa has sent him another one!

  • it is a foam block, roughly book shaped, with the cover artwork of the regs on it, sized to fit neatly in one hand. If for some reason you need more than one, you could  have mine, SWBO keeps threatening to 'tidy it away'.  A PM with a postal address could get it im post over  the weekend.

    Kelly;

I can confirm I was given one of these after I attended an IET Seminar regarding Professional Registration. I can also confirm them bounce of the back of colleges head after been flung across the room is not only stress relieving but also ultimately satisfying.

I am glad to report my self esteem levels have risen as a result.
