Confessions of an Electrician...

So while we’ve not been able to log into the community (you can do so now if you didn’t already know) I’ve been keeping myself out of mischief Blush by going through some of the discussion topics on the old Wiring Regs forum and came across this one: Walking off site where some of you were sharing stories about your experiences with client's pets while on the job.

So I thought it would be a bit of fun to ask you to share some of your funny/bizarre or just weird stories (keeping it relatively clean and protecting the privacy of others please!) from any jobs you’ve been on or done.

… And I’ll send some swag to the author of the story that gets voted the ‘Most helpful/liked’ from the community so don't forget to hit that 'Good Answer' link on any that make you chuckle! (Log in required)

  • I had a discussion with a wardrobe fitter about issues that may to be faced such as those Tom had.

At the time the wardrobe fitter was sixty five and he sighed as he said he was having a different problem in that the ladies kept trying to feed him.

The previous day the lady customer handed him bacon sandwiches with a cup of tea at 9.00 o'clock, biscuits with a cup of tea at 11.00 o'clock,  a pork chop with potatoes, veg and gravy plus more tea at 1.00 o'clock,  then more tea and biscuits during the afternoon.

When he got home his wife had another cooked meal waiting for him, he said it was easier when the ladies just flirted with him.

  • No wonder that I am losing weight! Plenty of tea at daughter's, but a corned beef sarnie at lunchtime and perhaps a Tunnock's tea cake or packet of Cadbury's buttons to follow.

Sparkingchip's posting reminded me of working as a relief postman. Drive to sorting office (meters free until 08:00). Collect mail. Drive home. Read newspaper whilst Mother cooked breakfast. Eat breakfast. Do round. Cycle back to sorting office. East breakfast. Do afternoon round. Go home. Eat lunch. By far the easiest job in my life, but please note that the GPO definitely sweats is workforce these days.
  • This is getting more like Confessions of a Window Cleaner ?

    Hahaha!! ?

I wonder if it is just me... that I have soooo many stories? DOH!

  • I doubt it.

  • I was big enough to pass for an 18 year old when I went to see the film. A friend of friend's big brother was a TV repair man and another friend’s older brother was an apprentice electrician. Rumour had it, in the world of juvenile bravado that real life was not unlike like the movies, so with an interest in electricity gained in science classes , it seemed like a potential career option. Time to move on from being a Clockwork Orange Boy, a film I didn’t actually see at the time, but started wearing bovver boots and bib and brace overalls to follow fashion. Of course everyone claimed to have seen it!

I actually ended up getting a Power Station Apprenticeship by which time I had a steady girlfriend who I got engaged to later. So the movies are nothing like real life - are they

Life was a lot more relaxed with an expectation that you would work hard and play hard with everything actually revolving around getting out and meeting people.

  • Just a quicky... re; 'login in' to the IET. I had a lot of problems with this on IE so I thought I'd try Opera... and that's how I can now log on. I do believe that the IE have dropped their old versions of the IE replacing it with,as per usual, something AMAZING, like yeah man, we've all seen this before... I think it's called 'democracy'... ie; everyone get's what no one wants!

    Happy days'!

  • Going slightly off topic but this has always been my favorite depiction of IE compared to other browsers...

Microsoft stopped supporting IE a while ago so we've always recommended that our community members NOT use IE to visit and use the community.

There are lots of websites nowadays that look awful when viewed in IE...
