Electrician cleared of killing child with dodgy pub lights

I am surprised that an installation as dangerous as this did not get dealt with more seriously.

It seems it was more than just the lights,
a news article that mentions the inspections after the event in a bit more detail

A pathetic verdict.

"Jurors were told that the lights had significant defects, including a lack of appropriate insulation to prevent water getting in and no earthing at the distribution board from which the circuit was powered."

It seems he was only convicted of Health & Safety offenses. And he still denied that there was anything wrong with the installation.
