Dad, do you know about ROSATOM?

Dad you know that fairgrounds have electric generators that are mounted on trailers or lorries  that can be moved from site to site?

Yes son…………..so?

Well there are floating nuclear power stations as well.

That's interesting.

Yes dad, the U.K. should buy some and position them where most needed don't you think?

Sounds a good idea son.

Here's details dad…….

I heard that in the power shortages in the 1970s ships generators were synchronised to the grid at portland  and used to help maintain supply's not exactly the same but very similar

Diesel electric submarines were used to supply electricity to shore facilities in a fuel shortage in 1947. “Operation Blackcurrant”  Worked well but was hated by the submarine crews as the continual running of the engines produced and ice cold draft throughout the boat.

During the great 1998 Auckland blackout, a gas turbine/electric cargo ship was used to supply the port facilities.

  • Let's not forget that HM ships have the capability to assist with disaster relief. As warships, you wouldn't have just one generator, so redundancy is built in. That redundancy allows power of the order of MW to be put ashore.

  • Wind is ok but you need reliable back up which is gas at the moment unfortunately will got rid of all are gas storage which wasn’t a good idea. Even Russia is looking at wind turbines and they have no shortage of gas, oil and coal.
