Hello and welcome to the IET Women's Network’s first ''Ask the Expert'' discussion area, focusing on professional registration!

This area of the discussion forum allows you to interact with skilled IET Professional Registration Advisors, (PRA’s) helping you to get a feel for the benefits of becoming professionally registered but to also address any misconceptions associated with the application process.

This discussion forum provides you with:

An online, professional, global networking platform, in which you can ask questions that may be answered by members, volunteers, PRA’s and members of the interview panel;

An opportunity for further networking and knowledge sharing / acquisition;

A means of encouragement and support for you and others;

Builds confidence in initiating the application process;

There are significantly lower numbers of professionally registered women, within the IET, when compared to that of their male counterpart.

If the reason for this is due to a misconception surrounding the application process or uncertainty as to what the benefits are, then this forum will serve as a means of helping to alter those perceptions and inform you of how professional registration can be of benefit to you.

We do hope that you will take advantage of this ‘’Ask the Expert’’ discussion area.

Kind regards,

Jo Foster
  • Hi Nicola,  yes I have seen things like this before.  again see what you CAN use to support if you want to include things.  you could also consider discussing with someone in your company if such information can be provided in redacted (blacked out) versions.  Also the IET membership team in the UK are used to these kind of requests as well.  They can also do some work to prevent anything you use from entering the public domain - in fact I don't really know of any of the materials for application which have been released into the public domain.  (protection of data act alone prevents this). The conifdentiality would be more about who internally sees your application and how the interview can be conducted.

    Also all members who volunteer for the IET reviews all have to sign agreements about non-disclosure of information and management of data under the Data protection act.  If you - or your company - want something more "solid" I can get one of the HQ membership team to send something out to you seperately
  • Hi Vicki - you can PM me directly at vquinn@iee.org and I can have a quick look ( I am an IET IPRA - International Professional Registration Advisor).  Alternatively  if you prefer to talk to someone face-to-face - contact HQ for your local PRA +44 (0) 1438 767 333.

    Also you can ask the IET to arrange a mentor for you who can also help with the process (see number above).

    Hello,

    Would somebody be able to take a look at this request and provide some information?  Responses from Professional Registration Advisors and people in industry would be great!

    Kind regards,

    Jo
  • Hi Emma,  the best thing you can do is contact the IET and ask them who your nearest professional advisor is.  Professional advisors can go through the process with you and advise on your applicaiton.  Especially in cases like yours, it is important to understand if you really do match the requirements for CEng.

    Hope this helps.
