    I have just inherited a tape measure that was my father in laws after we have cleared my mother in laws' house. 

    Note it has 66 stamped on the winding handle as that's how long it is, 66 feet.

    Groats, Bushells, Pecks, Farthings for a start. then 13 to a baker`s dozen, Guineas , furrow longs and aches (a pain in the neck patch of land?) Going metric every inch of the way will return. Personally I long for the day when we drive in Kilometres.

    How many thous in an inch? I think there must be millions of them!

    Admittedly I do yearn for Red, Yellow, Blue  then Black for N we were brung up on though.

    One of the signs on a local railway bridge, if you keep your eyes open you will realise that a chain is still a unit of measurement in common use and you may see it on various signs on a daily basis.
