ELEX Harrogate

I am really cheesed off, I missed Elex Harrogate for the second year running because of health reasons. Aghhh.

Third time lucky I hope.

  • Harrogate, that's up north innit?

    Z.
  • Naw Zoom lad,

it`s the centre of the world, well Europe, Well GB then.

Actually I am not far really from Dunsop Bridge which by most reckonings is centre anyways depending upon how you measure it.

I`m about equi travel between Manchester and Harrogate but Harrogate is a nicer run out and better for travelling on to Scarborough, Famborough, Whitby etc.

I just have to put up with it being in Yorkshire whilst I am Lancashire.

    ?

That Dunsop looks to be in a lovely area on my map, hilly I imagine. When you visit Harrogate you can also visit Knaresborough nearby and drink some of Mother Shipton's mineral water and gain eternal life.

  • I went to school with Mother Shipton, it`s my teddy in the cave you know. We both went to Fountains Abbey before it got wrecked.
  • Yes Dunsop Bridge is part of a nice run out we often do. Clitheroe - Waddington - Dunsop Bridge to Lancaster, the witches trail . Those poor women had to march to Lancaster to be tried and hanged. Sad but a nice country run, in fact we often go the Lake or Scotland that way catching A6 rather than M6, far nicer.
  • Anyway I`m sick as the proverbial parrot that I missed it yet again. All those free pens and goodies. Cheap deals. Seminars. And the chance to meet one of my national heroes once again (I will not say who but his name rhymes with John Peckham) !

Thanks for the kind words, send me your address and I will send you a pen? Up North in a Premier Inn, living the dream for 2 days for me!

I do enjoy the Elex shows around the country and meeting forum members so I can put a face to an electronic name.

The shows for me are a bit like a 2 day assessment as I have constant stream of people asking technical questions to keep me on my toes, I am not complaining as Stroma pays me to be there and that is my job, and most of the time I don't need to reach for the IPad to scan the the Regs. to often.

For those of you who have been what do you think of the 2 topics we have been doing on the public forums, they came from suggestions on this forum?

  • Premier Inn! wow that`s where all the  top snobs go. We make do with Travelodge. Although we have been in a few Premier Inns including a couple of times in Dubai but usually far too posh for us. This weekend posh wedding so we doing an Inn then though.

Yes I do miss the seminars, Geoff Cronshaw did some good ones and I particularly like Mark Coles either on his own or where he gets the schemes to participate which often ends in name calling and custard pies flying all hither and thither.
  • Well I eventually made it back again so YIPEE.

Didn`t seem as big this time and not as busy. But I was there on a Thursday whereas other visits have been Fridays so that might be a reason why.

No free Bacon roll, teeshirt or PE mag -disappointing.

I did get to say hello to JP again and actually met Graham Kenyon. So a big plus for those.

Free pens 14 and pencils 2. Vastly down on previous.

I did get given a Smart "Bulb" (actually a lamp but I explained to the lady that bulbs were for gardens and lamps for lamp-holders) . Fri, Sat and Sun I was attending a wedding in Solihull so I have not tried that smart lamp yet, Now have I got an ES lampholder somewhere?

And the forums - I always enjoy the Forums (Plural? ) and I hadn`t seen Geoff Cronshaw for a few years , so nice to see him back.

Good to see you there and other old friends. I enjoyed the show  but  tested positive today for Covid which I can assure you is not enjoyable!
