WHERE IS ZOOMUP?

Has anyone heard from Zoom as he appears to have gone absent? I am missing the weekend quizzes and the links to obscure web sites!
  • You're welcome.....always available for a bit of encouragement.

It is, of course, a tabloid and shows its reactionary colours on a regular basis even the independant appears to have lost its way in some psuedo liberal rant. Dependant papers such as the Telegraph and Guardian seem to have maintained their rational.

  • Hello Legh,

yes we need to read between the lines don't we. If I buy a physical newspaper I usually buy The Times cos it's compact, or the Telegraph cos it printed one of my letters years ago, and its good quality. The physical newspapers seem to contain hidden gems of news often missed on-line.

    Bye,

    Z.
  • Well I hope you didn`t really mean that there are some scary monsters on this forum, and if you did then I hope I`m not one of them. I know I practice what I calls friendly banter or a bit of friendly stick now and again and would hope it`s taken in the spirit it is given. I`m all in favour of a bit of daftness now and again (and again and again) but would hope if anyone actually takes offence that they would let me know.

Yes we have had the odd one or two scaries over the years but hopefully that`s in the past.

    Anyway, welcome back Zoom .

Anyone else holding off, get back now. You are missed. Your contributions make this forum be this forum and it is unlike any other.
  • Hi guys overall this is a lovely forum I know I got told off once but in the grand scheme of things it's not really that much to worry about. The only one on here who truly worries me is UKPN he IS VERY scary well that's my opinion anyway  Kelly x
  • I often used to liken the previous version of this forum to conversations in a public bar (I'm not sure you could substitute a coffee house for the non-drinkers in the audience, but something like that) - there are those who pop in regularly to say hi and join in with  whatever conversation  is going on. There are transient visitors who are only here for the duration of one topic, there are those who will keep taking every conversation onto the one topic they really enjoy. Then, like the pub again, those who are a bit loud, some of whom may sound a bit scary, but most of whom  are actually perfectly normal humans in real life, and then there are many who just watch and listen, and rarely chip in unless they have a burning concern or are dead sure of their expert knowledge and position.

That said, the technical advice on here is probably rather better than you'd the average pub, (though sometimes maybe not always so, especially after closing time, but the worst excesses hopefully get corrected fairly quickly).

I for one really do come on here in the evening after work and a beer, so while not exactly intoxicated, the views I express late at night may occasaionally be less well thought out than those that get posted at break time during the day.

I must say that compared to real life I find the forum is normally pretty polite, that may be a reflection on my real life of course, but in any discussion/ debate there are going to be moments when a thicker hide is in order.

In general to anyone, please do not be put of by something that someone else has typed, quite possibly  in a mood of exasperation at the end of a frustrating and tiring day. Same with apparently 'silly' questions - I'd suggest there are very few, and indeed some of the more innocent queries have sparked the most vigorous and interesting debates  ( especially if you can get earth, bond and extraneous into the initial post, or anything involving phase angles ).

The very worst outcome, and quite rare,  is that you will get a reply you do not like, or the thread gets moved to a non-wiring category - neither should be interpreted as  a great personal tragedy, we live to post another day ! The characters are what make or break a forum like this.

I think it was threatening to move his posts to mumsnet that did it!

LoL - that's terrible - what a thing to threaten someone with ?

You seem quite au fait with mumsnet OMS.

Sure - it represents about 50% of the population and it can be one of those potential influencers to encourage young women into STEM subjects (or convince their mums that STEM is an appropriate route for their female offspring, maybe) - even the great and good of IET get involved from time to time

  • What on earth is mumsnet? ...... a forum for, wilting lilies?, pre and post natal females? budding Marvel comic heros?

    Legh ?
  • "Mumsnet is a website for parents in the UK. It hosts discussion forums where users share advice and information on parenting and many other topics. "

I may be a dad, and not a mum, but I am married to one, and while problem areas relating to our own youngsters are well past the stage of the bulk of the advice which seems to be about teething rings and sleep deprivation, and now moving into the teenage " no you cannot borrow £20, and you are definitely not going out wearing that"  phase it has to be said 'mumsnet' is well known source of advice to those skilled in the art, even if less useful to us personally now .

Like many chat websites, including this one sometimes, there is certainly a fair share of inane prattle, and equally some quite informative gems. I'm not sure that to cite it in a  derogatory manner is a good example.

  • I'm pretty sure that none of that would apply, the closest I've got to on-line interpersonal relationship chit chat is 'Match' and Friends reunited about 20 years ago and then there's you lot ... lol
