S'fix Visit Today.

The famous supplier of plumbing, electrical and D.I.Y. stuff has removed all of its laminated catalogues that were previously on display, and some staff are wearing those sweaty black plastic gloves. Also the short pencils are no more. Also there is a one metre distance rule being enforced.

    AJJewsbury:

I assume patients are going to be flown from locations around the country to the new hospital which is very close to the City Airport

Seemingly London is under a lot more stress than the rest of the country at the moment - so possibly more likely to be exporting patients than importing them.

Or maybe it's just for bringing in equipment - or maybe repatriated UK citizens from overseas.

Most of the repatriation flights depending on the area they are departing from will be diverted to Boscombe Down.

  • Things are bad, bad, bad. S'fix on restricted hours and big tax rises in the future. The future looks grim.

  • Enough of the doom and gloom!

Keep calm and carry on eating biscuits and drinking beer -

Mine's a dark chocolate digestive and a bottle or two of Black Sheep!

    Screwfix were getting overpriced anyway.

    Hello W.H.,

yes I aimed to keep calm and carry on being happy today, so I chose a film on D.V.D. from my collection to entertain me this afternoon. I am watching it now. A big mistake, it is entitled "The Hades Factor" and is about a deadly virus. I am sure that I will have night mares. (It is a gripping thriller though). Screwfix is expensive on some items, but convenient though. With traditional wholesalers I found that I had many deliveries of bits and pieces before my whole single order was delivered. Generally Scrwefix delivers next day on out of stock stuff.

  • As far as I am aware, my local independent wholesaler is still operating but on a deliver or pre-order and collect-only basis, also not open after mid day but you can still phone to order stuff during the afternoon.

That was in the last email had had from them last week.

But they gave away biscuits and coffee, I bet those are gone forever.

  • Talking about food, I went out today to get some food for a friend and his family who are scared to go out, plus they are a bit hard up at present due to having just been laid off work.

A local small shop is close by, and the owner has a bad reputation and is not popular due to rudeness. Today he had a part time man behind the counter. He said that he had shopped in a large supermarket nearby yesterday and had spent 2.5 hours buying the weekend's shopping due to a 20 max. shoppers at a time policy at the big supermarket.

Anyway the local shop had just me in it in my trendy professional face mask. So it is an ill wind that does nobody any favours. Apparently I was the only shopper to use the local unpopular shop this morning up until 10.30.

  • I intend to have a go tomorrow. Last week's queue was 15 minutes.

If 1 hour is reserved for NHS workers betwixt 08:00 and 09:00, I doubt that they will be particularly busy 'cos they should be at work. I am not sure that my grey white beard will get me in as an OAP. So I shall stand and wait and hope that I can get what we need.

In the absence of anything else essential to do, I shall wait patiently. It could be a lot worse! ?
