Does anyone still use an Avo Meter?

Yesterday, I bought, for the bargain price of £15, an Avo Meter 12, ex-RAF, still in its leather box, albeit without leads.

By the side of it was a mint condition Model 9, complete with leads and all accessories in its leather tool roll for £42. I was sorely tempted.

It's hard to believe I was using one of these in the early 90's, they look to be a tool of the 40's and 50's.
  • John,

    Thanks - email sent
  • I have a Fluke, (but it isn't 'calibrated'), but I use a very old 500v tester that you wind up PLUS... an amazing 'bell set' too, can't go wrong with them, haha!!

    Good luck, everyone!!
  • You mean that there are now insulation testers that you do not need to wind up Tom?

    Hello ebee!

I love my wind up thingy, (no buttons to push - no batteries to run down and it's quick!!), PLUS, my bell set too BUT, I have had so many bell sets stolen, over the years', that I almost gave up, haha!!

When I used to wire new installations, like offices etc, where they would install suspended ceilings the bell set was amazing! Connect it to the tails and go around the circuits to make sure all was connected correctly, SIMPLE!! ?

    Good luck!

  • There used to be corporate models - such as for Post Office Telephones and British Rail - that sometimes had extra test ranges.
