Temporary Supply - Emergency

Hi I have been asked to help with a temporary supply to a takeaway shop that has no electric meter.

I am thinking of Hiring a 10KVa generator to provide the supply but have never dealt with a job like this before.

Would love some opinions and guidance right now, would be much appreciated.

Also would this be classed as notifiable works?

Many thanks

  • If a prepayment meter has been installed to settle an outstanding debt every time the meter is topped up some money goes to paying the standing charge, some to paying down the debt and the remaining balance actually goes towards paying for electricity to use.

So if the property becomes empty the debt remains on the meter and the standing charge keeps clocking up, so if you move into a house or a flat there may a large debt on the prepayment meter left by previous tenants or owners that still needs to be settled.

  • And, of course,  there could be a debt of thousands of pounds attached to any domestic electric meter to cover the cost of "energy efficiency work" paid for through the Government Green Deal scheme.
