Surface mounted pvc conduit nail clips

Hi all

A lot of my work involves surface mounted pvc conduit and in particular fixing to wooden roof beams in agricultural buildings for high level lights. I have normally used the plastic cable nail clips for this as they easily and quickly fix to the wood. I would use spacer bar saddles for fixing to a masonry wall. However, as the clips are specifically called cable clips, should they only be used for cable, not conduit? I have to say that they work very well for conduit and especially when fixing to a wooden surface
  • Hi MHrestorations

What’s your view the plastic nail clips for pvc surface mounted conduit? As I’ve mentioned they speed a job up immensely when long runs to do into wood rather than screwing. Used in conjunction with metal saddles or similar to meet the fire regulation
  • It does the same job as saddle, and as long as it fixes the conduit and satisfies the regs regarding premature collapse, it doesn't matter what you use does it? I'm sure all round band wasn't specifically designed for fixing cables, but we still use it

Yeah I get your point. I suppose it is all down to personal choice and selecting the appropriate fixing rather that going by what something is described as
  • It could actually be MARGINALLY better than plastic saddles. Put the nail below the conduit, and in the event of a fire, the cable may hang on the nails as well as the metal saddles/banding/crampets you put in as required by the regulations every few clips... Honestly for the speed of fixing, I'd just go with metal saddles. One screw fixing (or even a roofing type nail if you're in a speed race!) and simply need to loosen (not remove) the screws holding the top of the saddle to the bar.

its a shame that there isn’t a nail clip available similar to the one I posted a picture of where there is a metal part that goes round the conduit like the plastic part does. It could be part of the nail and embedded in the plastic of the clip so that if the plastic melted during a fire the metal part would remain to support the cables

  • Well, they look a bit agricultural, but
    these do

  • Used to use something like this in Australia

  • I mean the half saddles

    Those look ideal, thanks
