FREE WEBINAR

The IET are producing a series of free Webinars on installation technical topics.

They are mostly aimed at the IETs registered Eng Tech electricians for their CPD but anyone can register for the Webinar.

If you are thinking about professional registration as an Eng Tech electrician then this might be a good taster session for you.

Here is the link to register  http://email.ietinfo.org/q/1IqPz1Z7I7eqPyKy3vrEZ/wv

  • Mine is November, not September (good start !)
  • I clicked the yellow certificate button, at the end of the presentation, but didn't get to write down the email address to apply for the CPD certificate, so could you provide the address please John. Thanks

I would not have though you would know what a wine bar is given you hail from the frozen North!
  • Just a word of thanks to JP, Graham Kenyon and Mark Coles for the webinar yesterday. The whole concept of assessing maximum demand and employing load curtailment measures is bound to be an ever expanding consideration as we move towards EVs and other low carbon technologies. Any way, we’ll done to all three.

Many thanks for your supportive comments. However we did have a small team of people behind the scenes driving the IT and making it happen so a big shout out for their help and support.

The Webinar was for the IETs EngTech community but was opened up to all for free as Mark said as part of the IETs. Chartitable commitment.

We had a staggering amount of questions sent it which the team will answer in the coming weeks.

We are beavering away at the moment to produce the next Webinar which is on Protective Earthing.

I will be back office again, learning the ropes some more for November. Good work.

  • Thanks for that John - I've just viewed the recording.

One of the questions was about 536.4.202 and 100A RCCBs - I wonder if the questioner had in mind the last paragraph of that regulation - "However, overload protection shall not solely be based on the use of diversity factors of downstream circuits..." and thus in the light of Mark's earlier example of a 63A or 80A RCCB in a split load CU being acceptable when the upstream fuse is presumably 100A - or whether an 100A RCCB might actually be required (manufacturer's instructions notwithstanding).

    Thanks for your comments.

536.4.202 says you can apply diversity when considering the rating of the bus bar and the RCCB. I an guessing that the last sentence in the Regulation is causing the confusion as it says you cannot rely on diversity alone for the rating of the RCCB and switches but also follow the manufacturers instructions. I think this is a repeat of 134.1.1. As manufacturers dispatch fully loaded consumer units with 100A switches and 63A RCCBs without any warning about upstream ratings of circuit protection in their data sheets inside the box it is not an issue. That said I would ask the manufacturers technical help line if in doubt.

Best of luck when you chair your Webinar!
