Screwdrivers.

How many does an electrician need ?
  • Andy

I don't know until they arrive. The ones in my security bit set and my Mikita bit set have holes in them.

Wera ordinary VDE screwdrivers are very good and would be my first choice.
  • Torx screws - would that be male or female?
  • The head is female as the bit inserts in to it, the screw is male and the thread is metric.

  • It is actually worth putting a set of cheap screwdriver bits from Wickes or the like in the van with a selection of bits you think you will never use.

The one that has caught me out a few times is Robertson square drive screw heads.

Ah yes, but what about male-headed screws which need a female driver? Yes, they do exist.

I am surprised that nobody has a set of left-handed screwdrivers. ?

Or the security-torx heads that have an additional 'protrusion' into the recess from the screw head - that fits inside the bit...

  • Back in the 1970’s my dad bought the first boxes of Pozidrive screws we had seen and three of us shared the beech cabinet handled ratchet No.2 Pozidrive screwdriver that was included as a free gift.

A few weeks later I ordered my own Pozidrive screwdriver, which came as a special order from the manufacturer, again it was a beech cabinet handled ratchet No.2 Pozidrive screwdriver, not tatty plastic.
  • Something like this is very handy, note the holes in the ends of the bits.

the two pronged bits are useful when repairing the plumbers extension lead for him ?
