New Conservatory Wiring TYPE choice.

Helloooooo All,

What is the preferred TYPE of cable to be run in a foundation dwarf wall cavity of a new domestic conservatory? The cables can not be run from above as the walls are glazed. The cables can not be run from below as there is underfloor heating to be installed.

The main concern is any adverse effect of any unknown thermal insulation such as polystyrene that may be added into the cavity upon the cable insulation.

Thanks,

Z.

Are the walls dot & dab?

At this stage I do not know. I will have to speak to the builder.

    Z,

I used to sub to conservatory builder and I never saw any insulation in dwarf walls, it was always D&D so I ran horizontally apart from crossing thresholds the I dipped into the cavity, occasionally I ran conduits prior to the slab being poured

The walls may be bare brick or plastered or dot and dab. I will have to find out as it is early days at this stage. I have seen all sorts of thermal insulation in dwarf walls so can not guess at this stage.

Some PVC conservatories with an aluminium 'ring beam' around the top of the windows have a clip-on PVC cover that leaves some space for wiring behind it. You can then drop (or go up to lights) in PVC trunking which can look surprisingly inconspicuous against the PVC frames.

Thanks Andy, I was originally concerned about the lower socket supplies in the dwarf walls.

Can still work - if you can get in before the window boards (cills) are fitted (I did that in a porch recently when the supply for the light had to come in at a low level).
