VIRTUAL ELEX SHOW IET PRESENTATION

Good afternoon All

As the IET have not been able to do face to face Elex shows the organisers of the Elex shows have come up with the idea of a virtual Elex show. The IET are keen to contribute to the virtual show and are going to film a webinar using the same sort of format as the live shows.

Following the live show format the IET are going to present 2 topics. The chosen topics from the feedback from the live show audiences are PME earthing and bonding and EV charging.

So if you were in the live audience what questions would you like to ask? Post them on here and I will feed them back to the IET presenters to answer in the Q&A session?

The downside is no free bacon roll I am sorry to say!

  • Well to be serious now.

PME how safe is it deemed to be compared to TNS and how safe is it in practice from recorded data?

EV charging - is loss of PEN sufficiently mitigated and how is that accomplished?
  • ebee:

And if it is sufficient, will we be fitting them to every circuit along with AFDDs, RCDs, etc.?

  • Thanks for the questions. We filmed the show this morning so only saw the late runners from your new posts after. I think we covered most of the questions you have asked.

As I understand it the idea is that you will enter the doors of the virtual show and wil be able to look around the show as if you were at a live show. The you can go to an IET room and watch our presentations.

I will let you know when you can visit the show.

Sorry Ebee no free pens or IET beach bags.

    Thanks for your input.

  • John, I look forward to it and I am sure that we are all grateful to you for your efforts.

But I have a problem: in this virtual world, how do I buy something which I do not need? ?

    Cashless payment?

look at the positives, no queues for the toilets, free parking, pause button and no free bacon butties ?

    Thanks John

  • A lesson in switching DNO bonding requirements? This isnt going to end well.

    Regards, UKPN?
  • To include in your, educational talk to an remote audience:-

Vehicle-to-home (V2H), Vehicle-to-building (V2B)  What would be the earthing arrangements.? Where would the inverter be?

    www.virta.global/vehicle-to-grid-v2g

    V2G stands for “vehicle-to-grid

    V2X means vehicle-to-everything.

    vehicle-to-home (V2H), vehicle-to-building (V2B)

My experience of larger SCR rectifiers would be silicon after all a semi conductor and it has a standard volt drop across it in the forward direction of 0.6 volts, this of course means very little in electronics and can be catered for and even used for some old  meter protection by using diode back to back protection for the working mechanism that work below 0.6volts. But say 100 amps that is 100x.6 = 60 watts , so in this small example that is 60watts of heat to get rid of . So if they are pulling 300 or 400 amps from batteries back to the V2G then the cooling fans blowing air up through the heat sinks are going to keep you up all night.

Well anyhow at the moment President Biden Silicon Shortage Executive Order

So all this future may not be in our time. But its interesting the way things are going.
