Tiny Devon village with population of 286 will be connected to MOROCCO | Daily Mail Online
I think we will see more of these things connecting places with excess hydro, solar, tidal or whatever, to give a degree of robustness against calm days at the wind farm.
The fact that the cable is limited by volt drop rather than overheating makes possible a trade off of losses and how hard you flog the converters / inverters at each end, that means the ‘power rating’ is a bit of a moveable feast, mostly set by the electronics not the copper.
We may see developments in due course where some are uprated by changing the gear at the ends, accepting higher cable loss than you normally would, if the alternative would be that the energy would be lost.
