Ring Circuits - Fixed Electric Heating

Former Community Member

Dear All,

I have been asked to review a proposal for an apartment where it is intended to use a ring circuit (4.0mm T&E) to supply 4 No. fixed electric panel heaters in the living room @ 1.5kW each (6kW).

Does this meet the BS7671. Regs/On-site guide refer to ring circuits and 13A sockets.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

  • CEF prices not discounted

    2.5mm² = £80.00

    4.0mm² = £180.00

    So I'd expect the ring verses radial would cost about the same without the same discrimination.

  • According to the forum front page, a respected member added to this thread about an hour ago, yet my post that I made a day ago, still shows at the bottom of the page, which implies most recent.  So what happened to the more recent post ?

  • We do not know why the OP wanted a ring, or indeed 4mm - it may be distances and voltage drop, it may be grouping factors, it may be a misplaced desire to do what feels like a belt and braces job.

    The question was not 'are there alternative layouts that might be better?'

    That answer to that one is 'probably yes',

    The question was  just 'is this OK?'

    also 'probably yes'...

  • (Regarding newer posts higher up the page.)

    If you click Reply on a specific post, the reply goes below that one (with some indentation).

    If you instead click Reply just below the original post at the top of the page, the reply will go at the bottom of the page with no indent.

    Disclaimer: true for my settings at least, which I think are just the defaults.

    It's quite nice for logical structure of the page, but not for finding the latest post.
    And I think many users aren't actually considering it but just reply to whatever's nearest.

  • This is my second posting here, after the one about the difference between the Reply button on a specific posting or the Reply button on the OP.

    This posting is by replying to the OP.

  • And this one isn’t.
