Generator powered installation within a house with mains supply?

I have been asked to advise on if it is possible to use a generator to power a small temporary installation within a building with mains supply. The temporary installation would be isolated from the mains supply via use of safe distance and physical barriers. There would be no possibility of equipment being plugged into both power supplies. Does anyone have any advice on this?

  • If you get a company to supply the generator, make sure they drive in the earth electrode and see it tested out. I had one recently where I was on a parked up bus at a music festival with a generator powering it. After it was delivered and set up running out of interest I had a quick look to find the rod and conductor still coiled up on the top. Called them back sharpish.......

  • I was thinking this, too... we've all done so many, over the years'!!
