300 mA RCD

Hi I have a problem with a 3 phase industrial ironer. main components are (3) inverters roughly 8 amps per phase (24 amps) no further details at this time.the circuit is protected with a C50 Amp MCB feeding a 300mA type B RCD. The RCD has tripped, and now will not reset even with the load disconnected and therefore requires replacement. The ironer is new. what are your thoughts?

  • what are your thoughts?

Really? I thought at first that "correct" as you type had mangled things, but seemingly no. You will hate me for this, but I have Mrs P so I do not need an industrial ironer.

More seriously, the RCD is faulty. IIRC, we have discussed a 7% failure rate in here previously. I see no particular reason to suspect the new press, but of course if the RCD is replaced and the problem is not resolved, you will have to think again.

Why 300 (hundred) mA please. (I assume not a typo for 30 (tens) mA.)

  • No typo, 300mA. Which regulation requires 300mA protection? Quick fire round Chris

  • Got me there!

  • My apologies. I find that all too often I type something, or at least I think that I have typed something, and it ends up different.

  • Not the response I was expecting, I feel like I have overacted. My apologies

Have you tried testing the RCD on ramp and without the device connected

  • I couldn’t even get it to reset. I disconnected the load cables and it stills Tripped.

  • It’s been sent back to China for tests. Despite what you all might be thinking, this is a reputable brand.

If you cannot test it when disconnected i’d guess it’s beyond use.
