The IET Hong Kong Network is led by local volunteers who come together to organise lectures and technical visits that provide opportunities to learn and meet new people. All events are open to the public and most are free of charge.

IET Hong Kong is the largest local network outside the UK with 5,000 members in Hong Kong and Macau. To promote the values of the IET, viz. Integrity, Excellence and Teamwork, the Section Committees periodically organise flagship events such as ICT Conference, Management Symposium, Manufacturing Forum, Power Symposium, International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management (APSCOM), Wireless Symposium, International Conference on Railway Engineering (ICRE), Young Professionals Exhibition & Competition (YPEC), and other continuing professional development (CPD) activities to meet the needs of members. Each activity provides not only a platform for sharing of knowledge and experience but also an opportunity for networking. To facilitate the delivery of knowledge services to members, IET Hong Kong fosters good relation and jointly organises CPD activities with other professional institutions.

There are six technical sections and a younger members section within the local network and they are:
