What emerging technologies or research areas are currently showing the most promise for energy storage?

I've been reading a lot about energy storage lately and how crucial it is for the future of renewable energy and sustainability. I'm curious, with all the advancements in technology happening so quickly, what emerging technologies or research areas are showing the most promise for the future of energy storage? Specifically, are there any innovative breakthroughs or exciting developments that you think could really revolutionise the way we store energy? I'd love to hear about any cutting-edge research or new approaches that are on the horizon!

  • Hi Joanne and thanks for joining the discussion.

For me the most exciting part at the moment is the "decentralisation" part that is to some extent rolling out already and the tech that's the exciting bit is the way in which the data is being used to drive the commercialisation of that process, in terms of tangible R&D Solid-State and also Flow batteries (vanadium and organic flow for example) are holding out some really interesting prospects.

Hope that helps steer your interest and thank you for taking part in the EESS Chat !
