The UK government will launch two new apps – gov.uk App and gov.uk Wallet – enabling UK citizens to store ID and interact with services from their smartphones.

The gov.uk App will launch in summer 2025 and will allow users to avoid navigating the gov.uk website to find information and complete tasks.

Later in the year, the gov.uk Wallet will launch. This is a filing system similar to the Wallet app on an Apple or Google phone where digital versions of documents are stored and easily accessible.

The first government-issued document available in the gov.uk Wallet will be a digital version of a user’s driving licence, which will allow people to prove their age, and a veteran card.

Other digital documents to be available in the Wallet will include disclosure requirement certificates, such as DBS certificates, proof of benefits documentation, and marriage and birth certificates.
