In fusion reactor blankets, the flow of liquid metal is influenced by strong electromagnetic forces. These forces can significantly alter flow behaviour, with dramatic effects on performance and safety. Running simulations of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) models offers a powerful way to study the interaction between fluid flow and magnetic fields in such environments.
The COMSOL Multiphysics software provides unique capabilities for coupling equations for magnetic fields and fluid flow in multiphysics models. These models enable the simulation of induced electric currents and Lorentz forces to compute pressure gradients, current distributions and forces within liquid metal.
In this webinar, we will demonstrate several approaches for modelling magnetohydrodynamics using COMSOL Multiphysics. Topics will include 2D and quasi-2D models for periodic flow in ducts, as well as 3D simulations of developing flows using both induction and inductionless formulations...
