    Hello everyone,

I'm James McQuillan and I currently work for Siemens Rail Automation. The form was interesting and detailed but the registration team were helpful and responsive when I applied recently - if anyone has a different experience I would suggest you go straight back to them and give them a chance to help. As mentioned by Lee, this has to be a rigorous process to ensure that the right standards are applied and maintained. They should be able to help to understand whether you are at the right level or not early on in the process. If you are not quite there then a mentor or PRA could be a useful option.

I am interested in on-going development and I have also registered as a mentor. I've worked in business strategy, marketing strategy, product management, programme management and as an engineer (RF, software and Systems). That's a bit wide and varied but has been great fun so far. Always willing to help if anyone has a problem or needs an opinion!

    Regards,

    McQ
  • HI, I am Vikki, I currently work as EMEA Quality Systems Manager for a large international company.  I work in Switzerland, just outside Geneva.

I am a registered mentor and IPRA with the IET, and am always keen to hear other peoples experiences of the applicaiton process.  I also try to keep abreast of any ideas, improvements etc to help my applicants along the path.

We also have an on-line kind of self-help, question are in the Women's group where applicants can post questions about their applications and get suggestions / help / feedback from across the team.

I look forward to hearing more form everyone here.

    Hi All,

I'm an EngTech but would like to explore the route to IEng. I've covered a lot of ground since my initial successful application, both in terms of qualifications and experience. My employment is that of Head of Electrical Services for a rewables installation company. I'm designing and project managing the electrical elements of PV installations from 4 to 250kW and biomass installations up to 500kW.  That's the easy bit! Nothing is just a case of wiring up and switching on, what with additional ethernet, TCP/IP, Modbus, etc, plus bespoke control systems.

If there is a mentor who could help I would be delighted to make contact. I'm under no illusion that time and effort on my part is required and I'm a busy chap so it wouldn't be too onerous!

    Cheers, Everyone.
  • Welcome to all the new members of the PD Community!

If you are interested in finding a mentor to support you toward IEng, then don't hesitate to contact the IET's mentoring service (www.theiet.org/mentoring).

  • I am Kenneth Samoei. I am an electrical engineer (Building Services) with the National Housing Corporation in Kenya. I have recently applied for MIET membership and it is currently under assessment.  I wish to pursue Ceng registration later and I felt that IET would offer the best assistance in that regard.

I've run my own company since 2003, providing control systems for a wide variety of machines. I've been a CEng since about 1988. I joined the community because I have the perspective of a very small company working in the private sector both in the UK and abroad. For more information about me, Google Sheer Systems for the company web page and my LinkedIn profile.

    Hi there,

I'm a fairly recent CEng achieved via the INCOSE UK/IET partnership, and a very recent IET Fellow (today). My main reason for joining this group is that as President of INCOSE UK (www.incoseonline.org.uk) I want to help develop practical approaches and experience, and the culture of recording CPD so that we can be active supporters of Engineering Council policies on CPD.
  • Hi Alan,

Can I suggest you contact Caroline Shipp who is the IET's Product Owner for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), responsible for the IET’s CPD policy and strategy - you'll find her on MyCommunity. You are probably aware that Career Manager v3 is a very powerful tool for recording CPD (I use it myself).

    Congratulations on the Fellowship,

    David
  • Hi everyone

New to the IET, my name is Kiran Salan and I live in Hemel Hempstead

I currently work for Alstom Transport Ltd as a Systems Support Technician looking into and rectifying any technical failures with various sub-systems such as AWS/TPWS, Brakes, Tilt, TASS, Auxiliary Converters, Traction, HVAC, doors etc on the Virgin Pendolino Train

Looking forward to attending some of the IET events and getting to know you all

I am currently going through a 12 week assessment for EngTech registration, still getting use to the online resources and processes. I joined the IET to stay up to date with changes in technology and develop my knowledge and skills in the industry I work in, and to network with likeminded people, any guidance would be welcomed
  • Have you introduced yourself yet?

There are over 1000 members who are part of this community, so plenty of networking opportunities within the group.

I'm particuarly interested to hear if there is anything else that you would like to see from our community in terms of content or blog posts.  Have you ever wondered what professional development means to other members?  Do you have questions about the IET system Career Manager or the journey to professional registration?  Whilst you can always contact the IET professional development team, you also have an excellent resource of community members who can share their experiences and knowledge.

    Regards,

    Kathryn Bain
