Career in Radiation - The Next Steps

Hi everyone, I am happy to have been accepted as a new member of the IET.

I am looking for advice on what my next steps could be in terms of working in the nuclear/radiation industry. 

What courses could I potentially take? Or what would be the best way of improving my skills/knowledge. I am very limited on time due to having a young family but I don't mind burning the midnight oil if it involves improving myself. 

I have been working as a Radiation Technician for the last 4 years. This role involves the periodic testing, calibration and repair of radiation detection monitors. I am also in charge of the documentation and management of the sealed sources on site. 

I feel that in the UK this area is a bit in limbo and trying to find resources and potentially paths to take is a bit blurred. 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    You are looking at a very wide field here, What direction are you thinking of?

    There is the medical field, Xrays, radiotherapey, nuclear medicine.

    There is an industrial field, NDT, gauging, analytical instruments, radiation modification of polymers.

    There is a power field, nuclear power plants, fuel manufacture, decomisioning.

    There is the military field, nuclear weapons.

    A basis for all of these would probably be getting trained as a radiation protection advisor. The different fields would have different areas of focus.

    Thank you for the advice I would like to be an RPA But was under the assumption that you had to be a member of a nuclear/radiation group such as the SRP and served a good amount of time in the field. I will look into this further.

    I understand I left things open ended. My interests would lean towards the technology side of the industry as I really enjoy my current position working on radiation monitors. So I imagine analytical instruments would be a good move.
