CEng Application: Application Form and Assessment Summary

Hi All,

I completed the self-assessment summary according to the UK-SPEC but I have come to understand that the information there is not necessarily used by the interviewers. They only consider information on the application form. Is that correct?

I need to articulate the depth of my experience and demostrate that I have met the criteria of the UK-SPEC satisfactorily but not make my application too long, lest I lose my audience.

What documents are considered in the application review?  Application form? Assessment summary? CV?

  • Munya,

You're correct, the self-assessment is an optional tool for helping members to break down and understand the UK-SPEC, as Gerard has responded the details in your career history will cover similar content chronologically in your employment/career history.  This is where the assessors will look first, and then if you opt to add the self-assessment as a supporting document then they will consider this if further evidence is required.

4-6 pages is a good guidance for a summary of your employment history (and no more than 12 pages total for the application) - you can view page length in the review application section in Career Manager to get an idea of how long it is.

And my top tip, once you have a good draft application speak to a professional registration advisor (PRA) before submitting - you can find them online at: www.theiet.org/advice and they can check the application for you before you submit Slight smile
