How do you select the right CPD for you?

As the year draws into it's final quarter, we send a reminder to eligible members to remind them to submit their CPD records through to us if they have not already done so for the previous year - our advice is always to select the right CPD for you - but this often leads to the question - how do I know what I should be doing?

Of course as someone who works for the IET I can recommend IET courses, events and discussions but wonder how other members select their CPD?

  • The day job. I find many members hugely underestimate (or undervalue?) the CPD they get just by going to work. Every new project that's a bit different from before, every new design tool, every new application, every new market, every new bit of management / leadership responsibility. 

    Yes it can be difficult to quantify, but when you start at least estimating how long you spent on a new project reading the documentation, or talking to colleagues / customers / suppliers to get an understanding, or just working through a new software tool, it very very quickly adds up.
