Good afternoon all,
I'm looking for some advice regarding IntPE eligibility. The IET has the following criteria for persons eligible for IntPE
Am I eligible?
- You need to be an IET Member who is registered as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the IET.
- Your qualifications must include an accredited degree or equivalent.
- You need seven years of post-grad experience and two years of responsibility for significant engineering works.
- You must be maintaining continuous professional development to an appropriate standard.
The engineering council also has this within their guidance notes.
Education
4. Applicants should note that the following meanings apply to the definition of ‘graduation’:
• Accredited degrees – the date the degree is awarded
• Non-accredited degrees – the date the degree is awarded, unless a top-up is required
• Top-up requirement (Further Learning) – the date the last requirement is completed/awarded
• Engineering Council Examination – the date the last examination is passed, that satisfies the educational requirement for CEng.
To summarise -
I have an accredited BEng degree according to the Washington accord which was completed in 2014.
Over 10 years experience in engineering positions within the oil & gas industry
An accredited MSc which was completed in 2021 (also recognised by the washington accord)
And have been a chartered engineeer with the IET since 2021.
However, I'm being told that I don't meet the criteria as 7 years post masters is needed, which doesn't feel right. Has anyone got any experience/advice on this please? Or are there any ways people have got around it? My years prior to my masters within engineering seem to have been completely neglected.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Liam
