Query Regarding Accountability Diagram Requirement for CEng Application

I’m currently in the process of completing my Chartered Engineer (CEng) application and had a quick query regarding the Accountability Diagram.

I’ve seen this referenced in older application guidance and by other applicants in the past, but I can’t seem to find any option or reference to it in the current application form or instructions. Has the requirement for including an Accountability Diagram been removed from the CEng process, or is it still expected in some form?

I want to ensure I’m providing all necessary information in line with current expectations, so I’d really appreciate your clarification.

  • Hi,

This requirement was removed last October, that's why you'll probably still see some older documents referring to it.

"Registration Group (RG) have considered the requirement for applicants to provide accountability diagrams as mandatory information. With the increasing use of different reporting structures and matrix management, accountability diagrams no longer provide relevant information to assist with the assessment process.
RG have therefore agreed to remove the mandatory requirement for applicants to provide such diagrams. As of the 15th October 2024, the relevant applicant instructions and Career Manager have been updated to ensure that applicants are aware that providing a diagram is no longer a mandatory requirement."

    Hope that helps,

    Andy
