Time between IEng submission and a response

I was just wondering what people's experience was with a timeline after submitting for IEng. I applied almost 4 months ago and my application is still in the "Paid - Assessment starting" stage. Is this normal? I know people who have applied for professional registration through the IMechE and they get a date for a PRI within a matter of weeks. What is the expected wait period for a response with the IET?

  • Hi Martin,

The whole process is very frustratingly slow at the moment, there were big delays earlier in the year due to changes in the human and IT systems, and so everyone is still playing catch-up.

Given the length of time you've had without a response I'd suggest emailing profreg@theiet.org to see what's happening with your aplpication.

    Thanks,

    Andy

  • Hi Andy.

Thank you for your response. I can see from this forum that others are experiencing similar delays. I know that the whole process is handled by volunteers who graciously give their time, but given the not unsubstantial amount it costs in membership and application fees, I believe it's not unreasonable to expect some sort of communication about the process for the IET.

My plan was to get my IEng before gaining some more experiences in some competencies and apply for CEng a while later. But after seeing in this forum that for some people the process can take a year or more, I think I might have been better not applying for IEng at all and just going for CEng.
