power network is becoming more interconnected and quality of electric power is degrading. there are several adverse effect of poor quality of electric power. so awareness is to be built up. this community should take initiative in this matter.
i would not agree that interconnection brings about degradation in quality of the power. any interconnection scheme shall have appropriate rules to ensure that power quality is within recognised international standard of good practice.
increase of switching device, non linear load, non linear magnetic materials, arcing devices, lightening, etc, results in more variations in the harmonics present ecelctric power. voltage sag, swell, transients, flickering outage etc, are being repoerted increasing. not only that, poor quality of power is just like pollution which can affect a lot of things. speacially devolping countries are still neglecting the issues in practice. they may have rules and regulation but iplementation is still not so good.
