Lack of IET Scotland Events White Book

Former Community Member

I was extremely disappointed to read in the minutes of a recent IET Scotland Committee meeting that the IET Scotland annual events white booklet will not be published this year. See file https://communities.theiet.org/communities/files/46/3020

For many retired members who are unable to access the website this booklet has been their only source of information about local and other IET events in Scotland. Lack of the booklet will likely result in reduced attendances at meetings.

If the National Committee is unable to afford the booklet in its traditional format then surely a much less expensive listing of events and contacts could be printed for inclusion with E&T.

I would earnestly request that the IET Scotland Committee reconsiders their decision to stop publication of the only hard copy source of all events and contact information for the IET in Scotland.

  • Hi Walter

As far as I am aware the booklet is being printed for the 2013-14 session, just not posted out.  John This will be distributed to the various groups in Scotland to hand out at events.  John Maconochie and Andy Till have been requesting the information from the various committees.

There have been many discussions over the booklet and whether there is still a need for a paper booklet, especially when some of the information on it is not complete and we then direct people to the website to check final dates, venues etc.

IET Scotland have discusses a smaller version of the booklet, but the committee was unable to make a decsion as to what should be removed from the printed copy and put on the web and what should remain in the printed booklet.

By having this at events, it not only will benefit the members, but it will also highlight the events to many non member who would not receive the booklet.  As many of those who attend events are non members, this may encourage them to attend more events.

    Kind regards
