Lack of IET Scotland Events White Book

I was extremely disappointed to read in the minutes of a recent IET Scotland Committee meeting that the IET Scotland annual events white booklet will not be published this year. See file https://communities.theiet.org/communities/files/46/3020

For many retired members who are unable to access the website this booklet has been their only source of information about local and other IET events in Scotland. Lack of the booklet will likely result in reduced attendances at meetings.

If the National Committee is unable to afford the booklet in its traditional format then surely a much less expensive listing of events and contacts could be printed for inclusion with E&T.

I would earnestly request that the IET Scotland Committee reconsiders their decision to stop publication of the only hard copy source of all events and contact information for the IET in Scotland.

    Thanks for your input.

If there is no booklet mailed to members, all those who attend an event can, by definition, only have obtained information about the event from the website or in an IET e-mail.  They will, therefore, be able to access information on future events by the same methods.

I suspect there is a large number of IET Scotland members who do not access the website and who do not receive e-mails who will be effectively marginalised if a hard copy booklet is not sent out.

Maybe you could check with Stevenage the number and percentage of Scottish members who have not supplied an e-mail address to the IET. I believe the IET should be maintaining direct contact with these members at least once per year.

With regard to members obtaining information about incomplete events in the white booklet, contact telephone numbers are also provided for most events for members with no access to the website.

    Regards
