The Dreaded Matching Section!

    Hi,

I'm the Publicity Officer for the Glos IEE Younger Members. I’ve just had my first query about getting CEng from someone who would have to top up his degree by doing the Matching Section to meet the educational requirements of SARTOR 3.

In an attempt to understand what the Matching Section is going to mean for many of my new Younger Members, I have diligently read “Membership Guide M3B - Guidelines on the Matching Section”, see www.iee.org/.../m3b.cfm.

And blimey, how vague can you get? There’s no way anyone could use this guide alone to figure out what they need to do.

Has anyone out there been told to do a Matching Section by the IEE? Did they assess you and offer specific instructions on what you would need to do for your Matching Section? If so, what kind of things are they asking for?

Looking at M3B, it is possible for universities to offer an Accredited Matching Section, which effectively appears to be a “Matching Section Course”. Is anyone aware of any universities offering this yet?

It’s also possible for industry to offer an “Approved Matching Section”, e.g. companies can run their own Matching Section scheme to top up their employees education. Again, is anyone aware of any organizations planning to do this? I’d like to encourage the organization I work for to do this, so I’d be very interested to hear from anyone who knows anything about it.

    Thanks for any advice,
    Hope

    Mike,

Thanks for your comments. It sounds like it's all under control! I shall look forward to seeing the new guidance material.

In the meantime, I should still be interested to hear from anyone else out there who might be working for a company who is planning to offer their employees an Approved Matching section. (If any companies are planning to do this, of course!)

    Hope
