    Hello shaun,
I think age is often a good thing!! With it you gain invaluable experience, technical and personal skills, and have already 'been there'. I'm 21, and my job search is not going well because of my lack of experience. I think I'm in exactly the opposite situation!

With regards to a career change, you only have one life so you may as well work in an area that interests you. If you don't, then when you eventually retire you will regret it deeply. We spend a lot of our lives at work, and are most useful when we are doing a job that we enjoy and challenges us sufficiently. You clearly know where you want to be, you have transferable skills, and you are commited to expanding your learning. You just need to have confidence in your abilities and to market your skills effectively

very best wishes, and a happy new year!
