Arc Fault Detection Device (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (America))

They are here (BS-EN6206), is there any danger of the chaos they inflicted on the US being introduced here by inclusion in BS7671 in the foreseeable future?

BS-EN6206 may as well be a photocopy of UL1699 in which the manufacturers specified the test criteria and has been a bone of contention in the US ever since.

UL = US Underwriting Laboratories

  • Ah yes, sorry,

    Not familiar with this standard ... all I can add for now, is it's not currently referenced in BS 7671:2008+A3:2015, however there is an option to use such devices under Reg 532.1 for additional protection against fire for resistive faults (see NOTE 3 of that Reg, and the referenced Reg 422.3.9)

    I will look over BS EN 62606 as soon as I get 5 mins.
