Build experience in British standards

Good morning,

I'm an electrical design engineer with seven years experience.

Obviously, I come from Italy, so I have not any experience in this country about the electrical projects.

I'm looking for a job but almost of the time, I was refused because I have not experience in this country instead of my skills.

What I would like to know, is there something that I can do to have experience here? I know there is the shadowing program, but I do not where I could find information on it.

Thank you

    Hi,

I would suggest you look for the big multinational firms which have offices all over, or that are looking for international trade. That way you can bring in your italian knowledge and connections as a bonus. There is probably not much difference in the electrical standards, as we all work to EN standards, with minor variations in installation expectations. Technical sales is good, either a UK office for an Italian manufacturer, or for a UK manufacturer trying to sell to an Italian client, as a lot of salesmen have very limited technical knowledge.

    Good luck
