Only Ties?

Hello,

Set off to the Rohde & Schwarz Demystifying EMC event this morning. Upon arrival at the Silverstone car park, I proceeded to get my IET tie out and promptly put it back in my bag after realizing I was not wearing a post Christmas shirt and the collar was a bit too tight to be kept fastened. That got me thinking along the lines of what else could be made available to fly the IET membership flag ..... and then it came to me, enamel lapel badges!

So how about adding them alongside ties?

Regards,

Jon

P.S. The Rohde & Schwarz event was very good!
  • Hi Jonathan

I'm not sure if we still do them but I believe that we have silver toned IET lapel badges?

Give Customer Services a call or pop into the Library if you're anywhere near Savoy Place at any time.

No offence intended - I merely meant you had something to aim for smiley

  • Elizabeth,

I applaud the idea of a badge to show long membership, but is it different from the other badges available? It would annoy many to buy a badge and then get another one free shortly after.

I also note that it is given after 50 years, which means that even if you join straight after school you will be retired before you receive the badge and not able to proudly display it at work as an advertisment (though the UK government seem to be doing their best to rectify this by increasing the retirement age!)

    Regards,

    Alasdair
  • I believe so Alasdair but I've passed on the query internally so I hope to have more information soon. If it's not before Friday, perhaps Jon could update us all?
  • Hi Lisa,

You were right the first time, it is the Library! But no, as far as they know they don't have Member's badges any more, but they do definitely have Fellow's badges.

They're going to try to find out whether there are Members badges lurking anywhere and let me know - so if I hear any more I'll spread the word!

Of course, it's still worth going to the Faraday Centre for the nice lunch and to get out of the pouring rain - which might be why it's pretty packed in here today...

In the meantime I'll wait another 30 years until I'm 87 smiley

    Cheers,

    Andy
