C.Eng registration with Mechanical degree but working in E,C&I field

Hi I am a PRA for a candidate who has a 2.2 BEng and an MEng degree in mechanical engineering but his work since qualifying some years ago is with Siemens in the power generation division and he works primarily with control engineering systems. He applied for C.Eng via the IMechEng in 2015 but was rejected because it was deemed at interview that his work was EC+I based NOT mechanical !!!
He is now reapplying via the IET but he is worried that if he gets to interview stage he will be be rejected again due to his qualifications not aligning with his current work.

I did explain that it the Engineering council not the institutes that grants C.Eng. I have reviewed his application and I believe he can provide evidence to meet the UUK Spec competencies.

My question is has any other PRA/ PRI had a similar experience with a candidate. Any advice would be appreciated

  • Thanks Andy for the reply, it is as I thought, however the candidate did tell me, and showed me a letter from IMechE, that in 2015 he was rejected after an interview for C.Eng by them because they said his work didnt demonstrate his degree and therefore was not a suitable candidate for C.Eng with the IMechE.

The candidate also suggested that the interviewers admitted they did not understand control systems. This fact cannot be verified as it was verbally told to me.
