Today I jump started my car for the first time ever. Could this constitute CPD?
I mean, okay, it's fairly straightforward, but I did have to check how to do it, and it does involve a small amount of knowledge about batteries and electricity.
From my experience, competent managers gain a higher respect from competent engineers which results in more successful projects etc.
A quality or appropriate CPD is important to all professionals. For some enginers, CPD can cover a wide range of development ranging from managerial and leadership skills, project management related skills, soft skills as engineers increasingly communicating with multiple departments of various professionals, accountants as well. If one is required to present to different levels of C level managers or Customers than improving presentation skills can be a part of CPD.
There are companies that rely on research from 2012- 2013 that assigns higher emphasis on learning at work (80%) vs guided training (20%) in succeeding on the job.
Some of my colleagues no longer get any company-sponsored training. They are expected to learn on the job, and on their own time.
