Control Panel Ergonomics

Dear Learned Community,


I am sure that I have previously seen referenced in some sort of standard about the mounting height of control panel equipment i.e. approximate mounting height of an HMI, operator controls etc. from grade level.


Obviously there is no such thing  as a standard height operator or user, but I understand that there is a range; and I am currently dealing with a panel builder who has made a mounting frame for a control panel where the frame only has the HMI ~1000mm from the ground level and I would like to quote some form of standards reference to them about the requirements. Maybe they have only done work for Willy Wonka before?


Can anybody please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

    From EN 60204-1:2018

    10.1.2 Location and mounting

    The actuators of hand-operated control devices shall be selected and installed so that:

    they are not less than 0.6m above the servicing level and are within easy reach of the normal working position of the operator;

    the operator is not placed in a hazardous situation when operating them.


    "Servicing level" is defined as "level on which persons stand when operating or maintining the electrical equipment."
