Professional Review Interview

Dear friends,

I have applied for CEng and they informed me there will be an interview and they will email me the date within 6 weeks. Two of my colleagues, whom submitted their application after me, have done their interview while am still waiting. I have tried to approach them to check maybe there is something missing in my application causing that delay, but they told me that the application is correct and I just need to wait for the interview. My question is, what is the IET criteria in prioritizing the application for interview or it depends solely on the availability of the interviewers.

Regards,

  • There are a number of factors that I am aware of  (and probably a number which I am not aware of). As there is an interview for all CEng applicants the availability of interviewers is, as you rightly suspect, a critical factor. As the interviewers are selected based on what you have recorded as your specialisms, the interviewers selected for a colleagues interview may not match what you have recorded as your specialisms. As the interviewers are volunteers their availability is not in the control of the IET (though all the volunteer interviewers do set time aside for the role).

Another factor is your supporters. My understanding is that for an application through Career Manager the supporters bit is done prior to the actual submission but the old paper system has the form submitted and then the supporters are contacted, so a delay in the response from the supporters can mess up the IET's timetable.   A third factor is the location. If you opt for an interview in a particular location this can affect the timing with the IET having to try to get an interviewer who covers that location - this can in some cases speed it up and in others delay it.

Whatever the cause of the delay, best wishes for success in your interview when it finally happens.
