The Engineering Council would like to congratulate the registrants receiving prestigious awards and a £3,000 prize as winners of the RAEng Engineers Trust Young Engineer of the Year competition, presented at the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) Awards dinner on 11 July. Rosie Goldrick CEng MICE, who leads a team of interdisciplinary engineers in innovative projects across East Africa, has been named the overall winner and received the Sir George Macfarlane Medal for excellence in the early stage of her career. Sophie Harker CEng MRAeS, a Senior Aerodynamicist for BAE Systems who achieved Chartered Engineer status at the age of 25, was also recognised as a Young Engineer of the Year winner. https://lnkd.in/dv-rzR3 …see more
It was a great event in London, and awe-inspiring to see the new generation of engineers doing such great work, setting examples for everyone to think hard about what we do!
The Worshipful Company of Engineers (http://engineerscompany.org.uk/) of which I am proud to be Master this year, and our charitable Trust, the Engineers Trust (http://engineerstrust.org.uk/) of which I am a trustee, are very pleased to be doing our bit to promote engineering and to support young engineers like these, as well as 19 IET Horizon Bursary winners and several other specialist awards including the MacRobert Award. But, as we know, there is a lot more to be done to inspire and help thousands of others to set their goals on engineering careers.
Take a look at the MacRobert Award, on which the Engineers Company and RAEng collaborate to sponsor with a £50,000 prize (https://www.raeng.org.uk/grants-and-prizes/prizes/prizes-and-medals/awards/the-macrobert-award/faq) and see the enormous impact that teams of engineers are making across all sectors. All of those short listed teams and the winners, Bombardier, deserve much wider publicity so that the general public realise what incredible innovation is being done to create a better environment and improve life for all of us, and to show youngsters what they can do too.
