I was wanting a phase angle switching soft-start to be non-SMART as it will be part of a system performing a safety function, however, I have come up with a plan, and that is to switch the motor to direct on line after it has started and up to full speed using the soft-start, this way the soft-start module is only deployed during the start-up sequence thereby no dependency is placed upon the soft-start module to continue functioning correctly to maintain the safety function once the motor is up and running.
