  • It wouldn't surprise me. Ever since the Chineese communist party decided to industrialize and compete on trade with the rest of the world, they've used their ability to "direct" their home market and industry with the view to very long term market domination rather than short term profits. Several years ago they relalized that low carbon energy was going to be a large and rapidly expanading world market so have been positioning their R&D and manufacturing industries accordingly. Sometimes even directing the consumer side of the market too, in support. Apparently in several Chinese citys it has been 'decreed' that all the taxis change over to EVs - the taxi drivers don't particularly like them as they have to spend time waiting for them to charge during the day when they could be earning - but are 'persuaded' that it's for the common good overall (not that they had much of a choice anyway). Many new electric buses now come from China and I think Chineese PV panel production overtook Germany's more than a decade ago.
