Coronavirus.

We have been advised not to go to pubs and restaurants, cinemas and other public places, to protect ourselves and others from the Coronavirus. Are we still able to work? Can we still obtain stock? Will we continue to visit workplaces like offices, shops or homes? Will we be provided  with fiscal support if we can not trade, especially if we are self employed?

University College London is predicting up to 250,000 potential fatalities from Coronavirus in the U.K.

How does the pandemic affect you?

Whaddaufink?

  • Being always optimistic I have found out that Wuhan's hospital has had a large number of patients that have recovered from the Coronavirus.

  • I have just returned from the hospital (Ashford and St, Peters Tattyinengland) after a pain -management procedure.  The virus does not seem to be having any effect there so far, everything seems to be working normally, , except they are not giving steroid injections as, although there is no evidence it is suggested it might suppress the immune system..

The treatment is interesting from an electrical point of view.  Two nerves each have two probes inserted, located by ultrasound and they are zapped by 25kHz current at about 37V, varied between 35mA and 150mA, for 10 minutes.  All completely pain free.  Apparently this is above the frequency the nerves can react, but it deactivates them for up to 3 months.

That's fantastic news (for music lovers) - I was beginning to fear that despite Brexit, we would have to endure another year of the dross

    Every cloud etc

  • Being confined to barracks today with no work, I sought entertainment. I ventured into the spare room to rummage through my old D.V.D. collection hidden under 4 inches of dust. One of the first that I came upon is entitled "Virus" staring Glen Ford, Olivia Hussey, George Kennedy and that bloke from "The Man From Uncle", the good looking one, not the Russian. I am about to learn about MM88 and its effects. More uplifting stuff. Joy.

Over centuries Zs have always gritted their teeth during adversity and soldered on despite apparently overwhelming odds.

I hope this is now with Lead-free solder.....

  • Hi All,

As the conversations here are more about society than engineering or the Wiring Regs, I'm moving this topic to the Savoy Place Virtual Club category.
  • It once had potential but now it looks like this thread too has now become placed into 'self' isolation.......

Are you overdoing the "social distancing" Zoom ?

Do you have feelings of loneliness and despair leading to a depressive disorder as a result of the current unpleasantness ?

If so, (and you ain't coughing) then it'll be fine  - if you are coughing, then it's probably game over

Either way, lace your boots up tight and crack on

Lol .... I'm sure we've been here before

Well, it does make you think about how some people, particularly in cities, how they will cope with a few months out of physical circulation - just wait till the sunshines and the temperature rises!

  • I've just watched a program on the TV from 2004 about the black death from the C14th.

It appears the program's concensus of opinion regarding the Black Death was not Bubonic Plague nor was it caused by rat bites, or flea bites from infected rats as stated by the programers, there was not enough rats around at the time that the disease was in progress but the virus that wiped out 50% of Europe was something akin to Ebola. It came and then vanished within a couple of years!
