How long is the delay for interview under lockdown?

A colleague of mine was advised he had been accepted for interview in March 2020 but the latest communication from the IET (July 2020) only reiterates that due to social isolation and lock-down "it will take longer to plan arrangements for the interview". Can anyone who has been interviewed recently (or been given a date for interview) advise how long they had to wait between confirmation that the application was being progressed to interview and the interview itself.

I am aware that the delay is also dependent on the availability of interviewers with the appropriate background, so I am expecting a range of responses.

Thanks,

    Hi Alasdair

I have been doing the virtual IEng interviews - one/two days a month. I know that Karen Fox and her team are working from home and have to find the volunteers needed to carry the interviews.

It has been made difficult when certain candidates are not familiar with Zoom or Skype even when they require us to use their company systems.

It’s little wonder it is taking longer to process but the circumstances just make it that much harder.

  • Jim,

Thanks for your response, but what I am really interested in is some actual figures on delays. The reason for this is that two colleagues applied around the same time and one had his interview in May and was awarded CEng in early June, while the other has not yet even been advised a date for interview. I would like to know if colleague X was just lucky or if colleague Y is falling between the cracks....

The answer is get your colleague to contact Karen Fox at the IET - she’s in charge - kfox@theiet.org
